Messy Play + Preschoolers = A VERY GOOD THING!

The title says it all: Messy play is

indeed very good for preschoolers!

How good?

Research has found benefits such as self-expression,

self-esteem, and social skills.

Sign your preschoolers up for our 

MESSY MASTERPIECES class as Walkersville Rec Center

to explore all of the benefits and fun that can be found in messy play!

Our class will focus on exploring and

discovering textures,colors, and shapes.  Children will

be encouraged to express themselves using different mediums.

This is how art is meant to be: no rights or wrongs--just fun!

Class starts THIS saturday December 3 at 10:00 am.

Did You Know?....

Maryland is the Birth Place of Flag Football!

Flag Football is believed to have begun on 

military bases during WWII in order to prevent injuries.

Fort Meade in MD is where the first recorded game

of flag football occurred. Pretty neat huh?!

With the cold weather coming fast-enroll your

child in our upcoming flag football classes to help

burn off some of that energy, and learn

some new skills or perfect the skills they already have!

Classes start Tuesday January 17th at Walkersville Rec Center &

Friday January 20th at Thurmont Rec Center.

Covered Bridges and Our Parks

Frederick County is home to three covered bridges,

all of which are listed on the National Park Service's

National Register of Historic Places...AND

all three of them are located in Northern Frederick County!

Utica Mills, Loys Station, and Roddy Road covered bridges

are all located within 12 miles of one another. They are also conveniently

located right next to some of our beautiful parks. 

Loys Station , Utica District Park, and Roddy Road Park

offer lots of different amenities for all ages to enjoy year round.

These amenities include playgrounds, fishing access, picnic shelters,

walking trails, horseshoe pits, and much more!

So grab your friends and family, get outside,

and enjoy one of your local parks!

options for adult drop-in basketball!?

Walkersville Recreation Center:  Sundays 7-9pm

Thurmont Recreation Center: Sundays 7-9pm

Emmitsburg Community Center: Wednesdays 6-8pm

Cost is $2/person

Drop-In Basketball Moved

ATTENTION:

Over 30 Drop-In Basketball at WRC

 is now

on Sundays from 7-9pm.

Art Classes at Emmitsburg Community Center!

Did you know that we have our own

resident artist?!  Dorothea Barrick is an exceptional

teacher, and she wants to teach you art!

She uses many types of mediums and offers both

children and adult classes.

the class starts at 9:30am at ECC on Saturday November 12.
